Last fall, New York state announced it would fund the transformation of the Lower East Side’s Pier 42 into a glorious new waterfront park. Although residents are excited about the park, they also wanted to be able to enjoy the area even sooner, so the Hester Street Collective made a plea to the community for ideas on how to use the space before construction is underway. On May 4th, the Collective will celebrate its first event, a “Community Day” that will open up the otherwise off-limits pier with a schedule of fun activities.
