The Lowline, an initiative to create an underground park for the Lower East Side, has been progressing slowly but surely over the past few years, and now local officials have also joined in to push the process forward. In a recent letter to Kyle Kimball, the executive director of the NYC Economic Development Corp, a group of elected officials urged the start of discussions with the MTA about transferring control of the Williamsburg Trolley Terminal, the proposed location of the Lowline, to the city. They hope that this gentle nudge will be the first step towards actually transforming the abandoned terminal into a useful and beneficial space for the community.
